Maqsood steals the day

MAQSOOD

An out of the world performance from Maqsood enabled his team, Consolidated Shipping Services to demolish Applied C.C. by a record 206 runs in the ongoing Bukhatir League 'B' Division - 25 overs event, conducted by the Sharjah Cricket Council.

In an incredible match, Consolidated Shipping Services elected to bat first and were surprisingly down in the dumps at 18 for 3 as the opening spell from Nasser caused the damage. But what happened thereafter was simply breathtaking as Maqsood tore into the bowling with a frenzy and scored heavily to compile an amazing 183 off mere 75 balls that included as many as 24 fours and 9 sixes. His unbelievable knock allowed his team to pile up one of the highest totals ever-recorded in recent memory, a massive 315 for 8 in 25 overs. His majestic effort realised a record 260 run for the fourth wicket in company of talented Asghar (44) - a no mean batsman himself - who simply watched in disbelief from the other end.

The awe-inspiring performance from Maqsood completely overshadowed another great effort in the same innings from Nasser who took as many as 6 wickets for only 39 runs in such a mammoth total. His splendid bowling in the wake of the ruthless onslaught from Maqsood add another dimension to his effort. Sadly for him, such an effort went in vain as his side was mauled in a match they would like to forget in a hurry.

Facing an impossible task, a thoroughly demoralised Applied C.C. caved in under the sheer weight of the huge total for a paltry 109 to concede a heavy defeat by one of the biggest margin of 206 runs. Jaffar (27) top scored for them while Kaladhar and Rizwan shared two wickets apiece.

Emirates Bank demolish Al Barraq C.C.

Top guns Emirates Bank too showed their pedigree when they dumped minnows Al Barraq C.C. by a huge margin of 122 runs.

Their top order led by redoubtable Akbar Rana (69 off 61 balls with 9 fours) and Babar who thrashed the bowlers to compile a quick fire 67 off only 31 balls with 7 fours and three sixes, helped them to the big total of 271 for 4 in 23 overs. Opener Sajid Latif (42) and Heshan De Silva (39 n.o.) added to the misery of the bowlers in a forceful performance.

Chasing a big target, Al Barraq C.C. could not do much and were restricted to 149 for 8 in 21 overs by their more illustrious rivals. Sajid scored a fine 46 while Sanjay, Maqsood and Saleem shared the bowling spoils in a clinical finish.

Jamshed shines for Ajman Lions

Resurgent Ajman Lions once again put up a good performance and surprised Madras C.C. by a comfortable margin of 35 runs.

They were indebted to opener Jamshed (77) who helped his team post a big total of 235 for 9 in 25 overs in company of Sultan (39) and Tameez (45). Mohan (3 for 26) and Naveen (2 for 48) took the bowling limelight.

Madras C.C. in reply could not keep pace with the asking rate and were restricted to 200 for 7 in the allotted 25 overs. Opener Anand (61) and Aby (58) were their mainstay and kept the hopes alive but their dismissals signalled the end. Man of the match Jamshed had a great day out as he followed his fine 77 with splendid figures of 4 for 19 to undermine his opponents.

Bin Belaila down Rainbow C.C.

Highly efficient Bin Belaila maintained their unbeaten run and prevailed over fighting Rainbow C.C. by 21 runs in a close match.

The top order of Bin Belaila batted well as the top three batsmen Suresh (42), Arif (59) and Irfan (56) ensured a good total of 205 for 7 in 25 overs. The bulk of the runs came from the opening stand of 95 runs, which laid the foundation of the total while Raj (4 for 24) returned impressive figures in the late flourish.

Opener Jayraman kept the hoped alive for Madras C.C. as he lashed a blazing 75 off only 41 balls with 13 fours and a couple of sixes to mount a serious challenge by putting up a bright opening stand of 96 in 10 overs. But thereafter Rainbow C.C. lost their way as wickets fell in quick succession that doomed their cause as they ultimately ended at 185 for 9 in 25 overs. Priyantha (3 for 45) was the most successful bowler while Nandana (2 for 26) provided excellent support.
