Shyam Bhatia annual awards

The third Shyam Bhatia annual cash awards ceremony for the year 1999-2000 was held yesterday at ISC. Mr. Shyam Bhatia, Managing Director of Alam Traders in the presence of Abdul Rehman Falaknaz, Chairman of DCC, distributed the awards.

Mr. Hayat Yar Khan, Mr. B.S. Shetty, and Mr. Mohammed Lokhandwala and other officials of DCC in the presence of personnel's also attended the prize distribution ceremony of the 3rd Shyam Bhatia from media.

On this occasion, Mr. Hayat Yar Khan started off the proceedings by thanking Mr. Bhatia for taking his time out of the busy schedule to attend the ceremony, which has a become a land mark in UAE Cricket. He added that they all should be very grateful to Mr. Bhatia for initiating this award. Thus doing a humble service to cricket in UAE. He is not only encouraging cricket but also luring cricketers to bring in the best performances. He further said " The best cricketers award for 1999-2000 have been selected by DCC on the basis of results from the 400 matches played by over 135 teams during the cricket season, which itself is a record in this part of the world"

Concluding his speech, Mr. Khan once again thanked Mr Shyam Bhatia for his encouragement and A. R. Falaknaz for taking keen interest in the affairs of cricket.

"This evening is for Mr. Bhatia and we will talk about all praises for him as it is a unique situation where a business man like is involved in cricket and has always been behind our back with all his support for the cause of game", stated Falaknaz.

Mr. Falaknaz also acknowledged Mr. Bhatia's contribution and stressed the need for sponsors to come forward and support the game of cricket more generously. Moreover, he appreciated the efforts made by DCC to see the game flourishing in Dubai and United Arab of Emirates. Before ending up his speech, Falknaz thanked the sponsors who supported all the way during the season in carrying out their respective tournaments successfully. He echoed the words of Mr. Khan who requested the media to provide better coverage to the sponsors of the events.

The distinguished Chief guest during his speech said "As long as I am in Dubai, I would continue to extend my support to the DCC and the game." He added that cricket is passing through a difficult time but it will never loose and will come up again as it was before. Talking of any mis-understandings occurring, he requested every body to bury the differences and the problems and get on and enjoy the game.
