12th NMC Cricket Trophy

Mr. Inam ul Haq, General Secretary of ADCC commenced the proceedings of the press conference to announce the start of the most prestigious and premier "A" Division tournament of the U.A.E, NMC Cricket Trophy, sponsored by Mr. B.R.Shetty of New Medical Centre. He thanked Mr. B.R. Shetty for his continuous support for the promotion of cricket in U.A.E and hoped to continue with the same in future.

Ten to twelve teams from Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Dubai, and Sharjah are expected to participate in the 12th NMC TROPHY. The tournament will be played on the format of League cum Knock out Basis. Two top teams from each group will qualify for the Semi-finals. All matches will be played in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Dubai and Sharjah on Friday's only, whereas the Semi-finals and Finals will be played in Abu Dhabi.

The prize money for this prestigious Tournament will be over AED 20,000. The winner gets a cash bag of AED.10, 000, which is the highest of all in the UAE tournaments along with the trophy and the Runner's up will be given away with a cash price of AED 6,000. Player of the Tournament will be awarded with a Gold Medal besides other cash prizes for Man of the match, Best-Batsman, Best-Bowler and Best All-Rounder of the tournament.

Mr. B.R. Shetty, Managing Director of N.M.C. Group and Vice President of the ADCC. thanked ADCC for giving him the opportunity to sponsor this tournament once again.

He further said, "This is the Millennium's first "A" Division tournament organized by ADCC and for us it makes more important as this coincides with the SILVER JUBILEE of NMC Group in the U.A.E. Therefore being part of the celebrations, the tournament will be carried out in a more better way with many Cash prizes for the Individual players besides cash awards to teams".

Mr. Shetty thanked Saeed Atiq Salem, Chairman of ADCC and acknowledged his dedication and interest towards the promotion of the game in UAE. He pointed out that he is a businessman but still manages to devote his valued time and personal interest in the daily affairs of the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council".

Lastly Mr. Shetty said, "I thank you once again for your presence and now would request Mr. Atiq to address".

In his brief address, he thanked Mr. B.R.Shetty for NMC's outright and kind support for promoting cricket in UAE. Asked about the construction of cricket stadium and the grounds in Abu Dhabi, Mr. Atiq Salem, replied that the work on the new location for the grounds has already being started and the task has been taken up by the Abu Dhabi Municipality. The Tenders for the 8 grounds and the landscaping and lighting will be finalized in the next week.

He said " We are all very thankful to Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan for his personal interest and support in getting the new location of Stadium for ADCC. He also thanked the Abu Dhabi Municipality for their support and cooperation in the development of the grounds.
