ETISALAT CUP 20000

1st Day of Tournament - 21/09/2000

ACA Colts beat Etisalat by 100 runs.

ACA Colts pulled off a 100-run win over Etisalat, Abu Dhabi in the inaugural match of the Etisalat Cup 2000 tournament which got underway at Al Ain grounds over the weekend.

The first floodlit cricket tournament in the garden city is being hosted by Etisalat Social Centre (ESC), Al Ain in association with the Al Ain Cricket Association (ACA).

After wining the toss, ACA Colts amassed 215 for three in 25 overs, thanks to a 101-run opening partnership between Haseeb Butt (60) and Zakir Butt (45) in 12 overs. Imran Butt also played well and remained unbeaten on 51.

In reply, Etisalat Abu Dhabi never recovered from a shaky start and were bundled out for 114 in 18.1 overs. Hassan (40) was the only batsman to weather the ACA Colts' bowling, spearheaded by Najam, who took three wickets. Rashid and Imran claimed two wickets each.

2nd Day of Tournament - 22/09/2000

Al Masaood Automobiles beat ADDF by 35 runs.

In a high scoring match, Al Masaaod got the better of A.D.D.F. defeating them by a margin of 35 runs.

Electing to bat first, Al Masaood were off to a splendid start with their openers, M.Aslam scoring a fine 84 runs in just 54 balls with one huge six and 10 boundries and Jamal Zaidi who weathered the bowling with some powerful hitting, made 62 off 32 balls with 3 sixes and 6 fours. They lost their first wicket when Jamal Zaidi was caught on 118 runs. The other contributions came from Nadeem Butt (23) and Shezad Khan (33*). For A.D.D.F., Shahid, Saleem Raza,Omar and Imran Khan claimed one wicket each. Al masaood rattled up 260 for the loss of 6 wickets in 25 overs.

A.D.D.F in reply, were off to a shaky start as they lost their first wicket on 24. Their score was built around Waseem who made a marvellous 82 runs off 48 balls with as many as 5 sixes and 4 fours and Wilfred made 56 runs off 38 balls with 6 fours. But these contributions were not enough for ADDF to overhaul the total of Al Masaood as they managed 225 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their stipulated overs. Thus Al Masaood won the match by 15 runs. Rizwan, Humayun and Shezad Khan took 2 wickets each.

Muhammed Aslam of Al Masaood was declared Man of the Match for his brilliant effort.

3rd Day of tournament - 23/09/2000

Balouch C.C. beat WED by 5 wickets.

Chasing a target of 194, Balouch CC aided by Nayaz's and Ishaq's knock, overhelmed WED's target with ease in the end .

Agha Amjad (14) opened the innings with Ahmed Tariq who scored a solid 40. Ashfaq played a tremendous innings of 57 runs off 39 balls with 2 sixes and 1 four and Waris chipped in with 32 WED knocked up 194 runs for 6 wickets at the end of their innings. Khalkeen bowled well and bagged two wickets.

Balouch C.C, though lost firt two wickets at an early stage, but Nayaz in company of Ishaq held the innings together and batted well to steer team on the road to victory. Nayaz played a solid knock of 67 runs while Ishaq srtuck 52 runs. For WED, Javed took 2 wickets.

Nayaz of Balouch C.C was handed with the Man of the Match Award.

4th Day of tournament - 24/09/2000

ISC BLUE defeat United C.C by 5 wickets.

Akhtar took the burden of scoring as no other batsmen could negotiate the spell of Azeem. Azeem claimed a rich haul of 5 wickets. Akhtar slammed a brilliant 95 to give some respectability to the total. United CC ended with a modest 179 .

ISC (Blue) knocked up the total in 21.3 overs with 5 wickets in hand . Jaiman hit a splendid 70 off just 40 balls, cracking 1 six and 9 fours. The other useful contributions came from Mushtaq (56) and Tariq (18). Shafiq ended with 2 wickets.

Azeem's rich haul of 5 wkt for ISC Blue was preferred before Akhtar's 95 for the Man of the Match Award.

5th Day of tournament - 25/09/2000

Al Maghrib beat Pakhtoon C.C. by 9 runs.

Al Maghrib batting first after losing the toss were skittled out for paltry 162 runs in 25 overs. Their batsmen could not capitalize on the start they got and lost their wickets when they just looked to threaten. Saeed made 24, Mushatq 42, Babar and Khalid made 24 each, Ali Baigwas was the most successful wicket taker as he claimed 4 wickets and conceding 28 runs in his quota of overs .

Chasing a small total, Pakhtoon C.C were bogged down by some good bowling and were restricted to 153 runs, faling short of 9 runs with 6 wickets in hand. Zafar (57) and Hussain 28 were the only significant scorers for Pakhtoon C.C. Ishtiaq and Aslam claimed 3 & 2 wickets respectively.

Ishtiaq Ahmed of Al Maghrib received the Man of the Match Award for his brilliant allround display.
