Al Maghrib outclass Etisalat Al Ain to enter semis

BY : SYED WASEEM AFZAL.
Al Maghrib played well and defeated Etisalat Alain by a comfortable margin of 61 runs to enter the Semi Finals of the Etisalat Cup 2000, organised by Al Ain Cricket Association. Mushtaq 59, Ishtiaq 51 and Khalid 53 contributed handsomely to the total that propelled the team to a big total of 229 for 8 which rather proved adequate as Etisalat Alain's innings folded for 168.

Batting First, Al Maghrib were on the back foot as they were in early trouble with loss of the first wicket with the score on 2. But Ishtiaq joined Mushtaq and steadied the innings with sensible batting as the duo added 70 valuable runs for the second wicket partnership to take the total to 109 before the partnership ended. Mushtaq compiled a highly enterprising 59 runs with four fours and two sixes. Ishtiaq scored a highly disciplined and a patient knock of 51. However, Khalid added the late flourish to the innings when he hit a quick fire 53. This team effort allowed them to post a huge total of 228 in the allotted 24 overs. Shehensha and Musarrat bowled well in tandom and took two wicket each.

Facing a stiff victory target of 228, Etisalat's start was far from perfect as they too lost an early wicket but Musarrat 25 and Abid 48 took the attack right to the bowlers and seemed to be doing quite well at 118 for 3. But the depart of these two batsmen and a fall of two quick wickets at 145 saw them sliding to a precarious position. Etisalat lost their way in the middle order and were eventually skittled for 168. Aslam and Akram both bowled well and picked up three wickets each.

Abu Dhabi Gymkhana score a facile 8 wicket victory over ACA Colts

In the second quater final, Abu Dhabi Gymkhana scored a facile 8 wicket victory over ACA Colts to enter the Semi Finals of the Etisalat Cup 2000, organised by Al Ain Cricket Association.

Electing to bat first first after winning the toss, ACA lost three quick wickets in an inauspicious start that reduced them to a precarious 27 for 3. However Haseeb, coming in at number 4 stood at one end and played well, scoring 60 runs with 5 fours. Shahid Butt made run a ball 21. Imran Butt used the long handle well and scored 41 runs off 23 balls with three hits over the rope, giving the final total some respectability,172 for 9. Omer and Habib share the bowling honours taking 3 & 2 wickets respectively.

Mehmood Hasan and Mairaj led the charge for Abu Dhabi Gymkhana, both sroking half centuries and setting the tone for the victory. The duo played superbly to add 123 runs for the opening wicket partnership. Mehmood Hasan struck a fine unbeaten 69 with 46's and 34's while Mairaj complied a fluent 58 with 8 fours. Omer came in and hurried the proceedings, scoring a breezy unbeaten 24.

Akram was the lone bowler to be successful, though he was expensive(2 for 50) . AD Gymkhana achieved the target in 20 overs with 8 wickets in hand.
