ECCC stun mighty Sheikh Rashid

Waseem Rahman

Ali Poonawala

Amir Hussain

Emirates Cricket Coaching Centre U-17, on a roll these days, subdued powerful H.H.Sheikh Rashid Al Maktoum Pakistani School, Dubai, with the help of a brilliant all round performance by Wasim Rahman, by a narrow margin of 15 runs.

Electing to at first after winning the toss, ECCC got off to a slow but steady start as only 13 runs were scored in the first 4 overs. However, openers Majinder Singh (20) and Wasim Rahman opened their shoulders thereafter and scored fluently to hit runs at will. Wasim Rahman hit a fine 62 off 54 balls with 5 fours and a six and found an able ally in Adil Farooq (31) before being unfortunately run out. After their dismissals, Abdullah (26 off only 11 balls with 5 fours) and Nadike (33 off only 21 balls with 5 fours) took up the challenge and upped the tempo to end at the eventual total of 242 all out in the allotted 30 overs. The total could have been higher but for the poor running between the wickets that cost four precious wickets. Waqar (2 for 29) was the most successful bowler.

Facing a stiff victory target of 242, Sheikh Rashid got an early jolt when they lost their first wicket without a score on the board. However, Amir Hussain almost turned the tables with a splendid century (113 off only 49 balls with 19 fours & 3 towering sixes). Asif Farid (52) proved to ba an ideal foil as the duo took their team to the brink of an unlikely victory. Ali (3 for 34) and Fayyad (2 for 36) did well but the start provided by Amir Hussain seemed to be enough to propel his team to victory. However, man of the match Wasim Rahman (4 for 24) thought otherwise as he worked through the middle order to dismiss his opponents at 227, just 15 short off the target.
