Awesome Jayasuriya clobbers Indian bowling. |
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Jayasuriya launched
on to the attack and played one of the best limited overs innings to power Sri Lanka to a total
of 299 in the final of the Coca-Cola Trophy against India.
The swashbuckling left-hander smahed an amazing 189 off 161 balls with 21 boundaries and
four sixes to pulverise the Indian attack.
A sell-out crowd of 28,000 at the Sharjah cricket stadium witnessed Jayasuriya
plundering the Indian bowlers and notched up his first century at Sharjah and the
ninth overall in 217th one-dayers.
Jayasuriya reached the 6,000-run mark when he was on 166, but unfortunately fell
five runs short of Pakistani Saeed Anwar's world record of 194 when he was stumped
off Indian captain Sourav Ganguly in the 49th over.
The breathtaking assault produced 99 runs in the last 10 overs, and left India a daunting
target under lights to win the series.
