India bowl first
BY : SYED WASEEM AFZAL.
Indian captain Sourav Ganguly won the toss and elected to
bowl first in a crucial preliminary round match against Zimbabwe.
India is playing without spinner Anil Kumble, who is injured due to a
bruised shoulder. It is expected that Ganguly will move up to his original
opening position in the absence of Rahul Dravid, who fractured his finger on Sunday
and has returned home. Rahul Dravid has been replaced by young left hander, Sridharan Sriram.
A victory for Zimbabwe by a massive margin can only prevent India from progressing to Sunday's
final. Zimbabwe have made one change to the side which lost to Sri Lanka yesterday. Leg spinner
Paul Strang, comes in place of Douglas Marillier. The change would probably mean that Grant
Flower will be promoted to the opening position.
