A Dictionary of Cricket, a concise book dealing with the finer aspects of the game, was released
at the hands of former Indian captain and ICC umpire S. Venkataraghavan at the Indian Sports Club
(ISC), Dubai on Wednesday.
Venkat, who made a brief stopover in Dubai on his return to India after officiating at the ICC
Knock-out tournament in Nairobi, has also penned the foreword for the book.
The book written by Dubai-based MA Pervez, is a painstaking effort in collecting more than 1,300
entries of cricket terms and expressions in an easy, clear and concise language.
To better explain the cricketing terms, the writer has used over 50 illustrations in this
92-page book.
The book, in the writer's own words in the preface, is written in an attempt "to appreciate the
finer aspects of the game." "A Dictionary of Cricket, brings together, in a user-friendly format,
the cricketing words and expressions that constitute the living vocabulary of the game,"
the author explained in his preface.
The launch, organized by the Dubai Cricket Council (DCC), witnessed DCC member Hayat Yar Khan of
Mobil pledging that he would make all efforts to promote the popularity of the book. "To start
with, I will give a copy each to the winners of the Mobil Cup tournament," Khan said.
Others present at the launch were guest of honor Shyam Bhatia, DCC members Anwar Zaidi, Farrokh
Siddiqui, Leroy Lindsay and B.S. Shetty.
