Fresh Innings in Youth Excellence
Al Rawabi, comes forward once again in support of the
development of Cricket at grass-root level by backing the UAE Inter-School
Cricket Tournament 2000 - 2001 staged by Dubai Cricket Council.
Al Rawabi Inter School Cricket Tournament for the season 2000-2001 was
formally announced by Mr. Hayat Yar Khan, during a Press conference
held at Hotel Ramada Continental on Sunday in the presence of
Mr. Juliano Rabah, Marketing Manager and Mr. Mathew both from Al Rawabi.
Mr. B.S. Shetty, Leroy Lindsay, Farruq Siddiqui, Anwer Zaidi and J. Mohan
of the Dubai Cricket Council were present on the occasion
with representatives of different schools in the U.A.E.
Mr. Hayat Yar Khan in his welcome address said " We are thankful
to AL RAWABI for their continued support in sponsoring this prestigious
tournament for the season 2000-2001 as they did it in the last season".
He added further that without Al Rawabi's support it would have been
difficult for DCC to carry out the task and he hoped to have their
association in future also.
"The interest to take part in this prestigious event is from
over 63 institutions in the country, but due to logistical constraints,
a maximum of 32 school teams could only be taken in this Season on
first-come-first-served basis", Hayat Yar Khan said.
Mr. Leroy and Mr. Shetty in their brief speech thanked the sponsors,
AL RAWABI for their confidence in the Dubai Cricket Council and
their support to the Council in carrying out the Inter School Cricket Tournament.
On the other hand, Mr. Juliano of Al Rawabi thanked DCC for providing them the
opportunity to sponsor the Inter School Tournament.
Mr. Juliano said, "Although I have never played cricket as I was a Baseball player,
but assure all the participating teams that, we will be present during all the tournament
matches, providing all the nourishing products from Al Rawabi to the players for a healthy
competition throughout the period ".
About the Tournament
The 1999 - 2000 Season Al Rawabi Inter-School Cricket Tournament
saw 32 School Teams from all parts of the UAE competing for the
coveted Trophy. The final was won by The Westminster School of
Dubai with Pakistan Islamia Higher Secondary School, Ajman, emerging
as the Runners-up. Al Rawabi Inter-School Cricket Tournament will
be played under the Council's Rules and Playing Conditions of one-day
format of 25 overs per innings .The matches will be staged every week
on Thursdays and their will be no matches played during the Holy month of Ramadan.
All the players will be provided with Tournament Hat and Shirt to be worn
at all matches. The Al Rawabi Inter-School Cricket Tournament 2000 - 2001
is for student players who would not attain the age of 18 years as on
31st December 2000.
Besides the Trophies and substantial cash prizes both for Teams and for
Players, Academic cash awards of Dhs. 6000/- each will be given to the
three Cricketers under the Council's set criteria.
