Bin Belaila maintain unbeaten run
Top guns Bin Belaila continued their unbeaten form in Bukhatir league 30 overs when they
dumped the upcoming Star C.C with a 73 runs victory.
Batting first after winning the toss, Bin Belaila were in early trouble at 27 for 2,
but a concrete 3rd wicket partnership of 137 runs between Arif Sheriffudeen and
Menik De Silva made sure that there won't be any debacle to follow and the duo
added 148 runs in the final tally of 214 runs.
Arif was in punishing form while Menik gave him a sedate supporting role by ticking
singles and doubles. Arif narrowly missed his second century of the season by
scoring 97 runs of just 63 balls with 12 fours and 2 huge sixes while Menik
(51 with 5 fours) hit his 3rd half-century of the tournament to show his solidarity
in the middle order.
Late in the slog overs, a cameo innings of 30 runs off 12 balls studded with 4 fours
and a six from Jude Fernando propped up the total of Bin Belaila.
Azmat of Star C.C struck 4 vital blows for 39 runs to steal the bowling honours.
Star C.C. started off aggressively with Jarnail looking in blistering form from the
word go. His breezy stay at the wicket produced 45 runs with the help of 5 fours
and 1 six. Shaukat (24) and Rashid (30) played well and kept their team in hunt
for victory. They were at one stage - 104 for 5 in 15 overs
However, after the water break interval, fortunes changed and Bin Belaila helped
by well planned bowling changes and tidy fielding bounced right back in to the game.
Star C.C. were eventually bowled out for 141 in 22.5 overs.
Mahesh Padmanabha of Bin Belaila returned with impressive figures of 4 for 15
while Menik, Riyaz and Priyantha chipped in with 2 wickets each.
