Jumeirah International stun Sharjah C.C.

In a nail biting thriller of the ongoing PASS PASS Gold Cup for the III Ramadan Floodlit Cricket Tournament, sponsored by Baba Global India Ltd. and organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council, resilient Jumeirah International snatched victory from the jaws of the defeat to score an incredible fairy tale last ball win by a solitary wicket over Sharjah C.C. who should blame themselves for the debacle.

All seemed lost for the brave Jumeirah side who needed 11 runs off the last three balls of the match with the last pair at the wicket but two out of this world blows from the hero of the day, Azmin(13 n.o.), turned everything upside down as he hit a cracking four off the fourth ball that suddenly reduced the target to seven off two. More drama was to follow as he followed that up with a superlative six to stun the shell shocked Sharjah C.C. and their large band of supporters. The task was made easier in the end as poor Mukhtar bowled a wide to end the dramatic match, much to the delight of Jumeirah International who could not believe their good fortune.

Earlier Jumeirah International made a concerted effort in pursuit of the big victory target of 224 in the allotted overs and were doing well with burly opener Jude (29) in full flow but his dismissal along with the wicket of Mihira (39) and dangerous looking Milroy (22) dampened their spirit. It was, however, man of the match Adnan who played a memorable knock of 56, studded with 3 fours and four sixes that brought his team closer to victory in company of pinch hitter Priyantha (24 off 14 balls with3 fours) as the duo took the score from a precarious 109 for 4 to 193 as the spiralling run rate was brought well within control. When victory looked within their grasp, another drama unfolded and turned the game around once again when in a sudden lapse of concentration they threw away the advantage and lost three wickets within a space of a single that reduced them to a hopeless194 for 8. With the run rate suddenly climbing again, loss of another wicket at 209 further doomed their chances. But the gallant last pair of Kamal and Azmin saved the day for their team in dream ending as they carved out an unlikely victory with a determined effort in the end.

Earlier Sharjah did well to post a good total of 223 in which Fouz (74) and Jameel (64) played stellar knocks. The sloppy fielding of Jumeirah International let them down as a flurry of regulation catches were dropped. Mukhtar made a quick 24 off 12 balls to swell the final total to 223 for 3 in the stipulated 30 overs.

Mighty ISC snub Rainbow C.C.

Powerful Indian Sports Club continued their relentless march as they disposed off yet another opposition out of the way when they beat Rainbow C.C. by a handsome margin of 6 wickets and almost assured them of a berth in the knock out stage with a game in hand.

Despite making a reasonably good start in which Rainbow C.C. were doing well at one stage with the scoreboard reading a healthy 102 for 1, they could not capitalise on it as the rest of the batsmen disappointed and threw away the wickets, allowing them to put up a modest 162 all out in 29.3 overs. The good efforts opener Shafkat (50), Jayaraman (21) and Dominic (34) went in vain as wily fox Shahji exploited the weakness of their opponents to the hilt to return excellent figures of 4 for 28 with the support coming from the multi faceted talent of Devender who looks to be in good touch.

Set to overhaul a none too difficult target, Indian Sports batted competently to score another fine win by five wickets. Opener Niranjan (40) again proved his mettle with the finishing touches coming from Tarun (31off 36 balls with 3 fours) and man of the match Devender (30 n.o. off 32 balls with a four and 3 sixes) who ensured victory without much fuss.
