Energizer outsmart Smart C.C.
A competent Energizer C.C. outsmarted debutant Smart C.C. by a handsome
margin of 72 runs to open their campaign on a winning note in the ongoing
PASS PASS Gold Cup for the III Ramadan Floodlit Cricket Tournament - B
Division. The tournament is sponsored by Baba Global India Ltd. and
conducted by the Sharjah Cricket Council.
Opener Adil Butt hit a breezy 77 off 52 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes to
lead his team to a healthy total of 175 for 9 in the stipulated 30 overs.
His fruitful association with Sajid Zuhoor produced 52 for the first
wickets while he added another 47 for the third to provide his team a good
start, though the later batsmen failed to capitalise on that. Jason (3 for
27) and Jatin (3 for 28) bowled well while Lalit (3 for 44) provided
excellent support.
Smart C.C. in reply, made a horrendous start and were soon down in the
dumps with the scoreboard reading a dismal 30 for 6. With the writing on
the wall, Smart C.C. could not recover and were bowled out for a paltry 103
though Anwar (44 off 55 balls with 7 fours and a six) batted well to
provide some semblance of respectability to the total. Irshad was in his
element when he wrecked the innings with fine figures of 4 for 26 while
Nadeem (3 for 12) hastened the end after miserly Gavin (2 for 14) had
softened the top.

Munawar bursts NBD
In another night action, defending champions Oman Insurance helped by match
winning perofrmance from Munawar Jafrey (4/24) showed their pedigree and
scored a big victory by 98 runs without breaking a sweat over
another debutant National Bank of Dubai.
Awesome hitting by Gulzar set the tone of the match as he smashed a
breathtaking 69 off mere 38 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes to take the
match away from his opponents. He added a quick fire 117 for the first
wicket in company of Imran Butt before being separated. The initial burst
coupled by a compact 48 from Shafi later in the innings allowed the
champions to post a big total of 230 for 7 in the allotted 30 overs. It was
Hitesh (4 for 25) who stemmed the flow of runs with some good bowling.
National Bank of Dubai, in reply, proved no match for the wily duo of
Munawar (4 for 24) and Ashwin (3 for 22) who ran through the innings and
restricted the rivals to a modest 132 for 9 in 30 overs. Munawar Jafrey, one
of the consistent performers for Oman Insurance was in the limelight again when
he tore apart the NBD batting with a fiery spell. Opener Waseem (29) fought gamely
despite an injury along with Hitesh (29).
