Ali & Khan steer Emirates to victory
Emirates came up with a fine team performance to help themselves to a 75-run win over
Expats CC in the third week of the New Medical Centre(NMC) Trophy Division 'A' cricket
tournament at the Young Veterans ground, Dubai.
Emirates were off to a healthy start with Zulfiqar Ali coming up with a commanding 82
runs. Ali's 82 runs consisted of eight hits to the fence and a six. Peter Rodrigues
too was striking the ball well when he fell to a dubious run-out after scoring 41.
After a couple of wickets, it was left up to Khurram Khan and Sandesh Desai to end
the Emirates inning with a flourish.
The two put on 60 runs for the ninth wicket with Desai doing a commendable job in
weighing anchor at the other end while Khan busied himself in keeping the scoreboard
moving. Khan smashed nine fours and a six as the duo put on 60 runs in less than five
overs. Desai stayed unbeaten on 20, while Khan was out with three balls to go of the
final over.
Sharafuddin, Naemullah, Masood and Jairaj Thakur picked up two wickets each.
Expats CC, in reply, were off to a good start with Arshad Ali (40), Thakur(55) and
Zakir Hussain (76) chipping in with useful contributions.
But a spate of run-outs did not help their cause as the batsmen failed to take
advantage of their good start and were shot out for 230 in 47.3 overs. Ali took
three wickets to land the man of the match prize, while Javed Ismail bagged two wickets.
