Hosts stun Al Masaood in ADDF final
BY : SYED WASEEM AFZAL.
Hosts ADDF produced a sparking display of cricket and stunned heavyweights Nissan Al Masaood by some 40 runs on Friday, 4th June 2004 to clinch the coveted ADDF Trophy conducted by the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council.
Nissan Al Masaood’ decision to field first paid early dividends when they reduced ADDF to 25 for 2 but opener Amjad Ali (55 off 80 balls with a four) and Imran Khan (62 off 67 balls with 3 sixes and a four) got together brilliantly and added 120 match winning runs for the second wicket.
However, the remainder of the batting did not quite fire on the cylinders as Nissan Al Masaood inspired by Nadeem (3 for 20) and Surjit (2 for 32) bowled tidily enough to skittle them out for 205 in 38.2 overs.
Confronted with a challenging target, Nissan Al Masaood too suffered early reverses when they plunged to 49 for 3 but a third wicket stand of 89 runs between Nadeem Butt (55 of 68 balls with 3 fours) and Tharindu (38 off 59 balls wit 3 fours) brought the game alive.
However, it was at this stage that Imran Khan (4 for 14) bowled an inspired spell and wrestled the game away once and all from Nissan Al Masaood with a 3 wicket burst.
Omer Saeed (2 for 12) complemented Imran’s effort from the other end as the duo combined to wreck havoc amongst Nissan’s ranks, whose batsmen failed to combat the storm and crumbled to 165 all out in 35.4 overs.
