UAE hold edge against Singapore

BY : A STAFF REPORTER.
UAE dished out a highly efficient bowling performance when they scuttled out Singapore for 228 and then reached 69 for 2 by close on the first day of the ACC Fast Track Country three-day tournament.

The highlight of the Singapore innings were some doughty contributions from
Kapila Mendis (23), Sunneth Mendis (45), Buddhika (41), Shoib A Razak (31) and Pramodh Raja (20), who all managed to get in but failed to build on.

For ECB, Ali Asad continued his last month’s wicket-taking vein (13 wickets against Nepal in the Intercontinental Cup in Sharjah) and bowled brilliantly to return enviable figures of 4 wickets for 49 runs in a disciplined spell of 24.5 overs.

Vice captain Mohd Tauqir too bowled well to pick up 2 for 49 while Samir Zia had 2 for 18 runs.

In reply, ECB batted with sensible application to reach 69 for 2 with Asim Saeed (16) and Ramveer Rai (39) contributing chiefly.

Brief Scores:
Singapore 1st innings: 228 all-out in 84.5 overs
Kapila Mendis 23, Sunneth Mendis 45, Buddhika 41, Shoib A Razak 31, Pramodh Raja 20; Ali Asad 4 for 49, Mohd Tauqir 2 for 49, Sameer Zia 2 for 18
UAE Emirates Cricket Board 1st innings: 69 for 2 in 16.1 overs
Asim Saeed 16, Ramveer Rai 39 run out.
