Inzamam, Youhana meet Shaharyar
BY : A CORRESPONDENT.
KARACHI: Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq and his deputy Yousuf Youhana met with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan on Friday.
Well-informed sources said that the meeting had revolved around the team’s performance against India, individual behaviour of some players in the series and future prospects of the team besides the central contract system for players.
He said that behaviour of a few players including fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar were discussed in the meeting which is the first of many the PCB chief has planned with other cricket figures in Lahore in the next, before announcing some decisions in second week of May.
The source said that Shaharyar had also asked Inzamam and Youhana about the views of some of the younger players that they were not involved actively in team affairs and decisions.
"The introduction of a central contract system for players also came under discussion and the chairman told the two senior players the Board would first have to see the financial implications of implementing such a system before taking a final decision even though it had earned a record sum of $22 million from the series against India.
Both Inzamam and Youhana have asked the Board to introduce the central contract system for a pool of 20 to 25 players to ensure optimum performances from them and a reduction in injury problems with leading players due to non-stop cricket throughout the year.
