Aslam stars for AD in NBD Trophy

ABU DHABI Cricket Council (ADCC) gave Sharjah Cricket Council (SCC) a tough game at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium to lead in points fractionally as the game ended in a draw in the Emirates Cricket Board organised NBD Trophy for the first Inter Council two-day regional tournament.

Electing to bat after winning the toss, ADCC scored 174 for 7 wickets declared. The highlight of their 1st innings was Nasir Siddiqui's 62, skipper Azhar Saeed's 35, Yogesh 31 no and Saqib Ali 21. Rizwan picked up 3 wickets for 43 and Fawad 2 for 27.

In reply ADCC's fast bowler Aslam ripped the SCC batting to shreds as he claimed six wickets for 28 to force SCC to declare their innings at 72 for 7 in their first innings. Ryan Chadha 21 and Asim Saeed 17 were the only two batsmen to resist Aslam's onslaught.

In the second innings, Zubair Nadeem 26, Saqib Ali 28, Azhar Saeed 28 and Nasir Siddiqui 23 not out, were the main contributors as ADCC declared at 139 for 5 wickets. Naeemullah 2 for 23 and Rizwan Latif 2 for 29 claimed wickets.

Given a fair target to chase 239 in 55 overs, SCC did well to score 150 for 4 wickets with some fine batting by young turks Ryan (19) and Ramvir (34).

Later Asghar Ali (52 not out) and Sameer Naik (17 not out) ensured a draw for their team. First innings hero Aslam further picked up 2 wickets for 53 for a match tally of 8 for 81 to be declared the man of the match.

For having done well in the first innings, Abu Dhabi earned 0.41 bonus points as they accumulated 8.63 points while Sharjah have 8.22 points.

SCC 150 for 4 wkts at close. (Ryan Chadha 19, Ramvir Rai 34, Asghar Ali 52 no Sameer Naik 17 no; Aslam 2 for 53, Azhar 1 for 11).
