Askew, Turk spur Spencer to fine win

Tom Askew and Patrick Turk donned the party hats with sizzling performances as the visiting Spencer Club Academy from Surrey, UK, out battled Emirates Cricket Training by 46 runs a friendly cricket match played at the DCC ground.

Electing to take first strike, Spencer Academy were given a flying start by their opening pair of Turk and Askew, who both batted with poise and panache to plaster a match-winning 185 runs for the opening wicket.

Askew batted belligerently for his blazing 96 off 105 balls, studded with 5 fours while Turk was equally combatant with a spanking 78 off just 79 balls laced with 7 fours.

However, the ECT side fought their way back and pinned back the visitors through quick wickets as the remainder of the Spencer batsmen failed to exploit the gains, ending at a formidable 259 for 7 in the allotted 40 overs.

Riaz Latif took 3 wickets for 41 runs while Qasim Siddiq claimed 2 for 31 to undermine the Spencer's innings.

In reply, the Emirates Cricket Training, suffered an early jolt when opener Ryan Chadda fell for naught, but Riaz and Jason Benjamin revived the floundering innings with an impressive 124-run stand for the second wicket.

While Jason managed a breezy 24, Riaz (98 off 77 balls with 11 fours and one six) led the charge single-handedly and looked to be running away with the game when he was undone, two short of a three-figure mark.

Right-arm medium pacer Abid Jaffery derailed ECT’s progress with a rich haul of 4 for 41 while leg-spinner Turk returned a fine haul of 3 for 23 to cap off a good day in the office as ECT eventually crashed to 213 all out.
