Ruthless Raha surprise NMC
BY : SYED WASEEM AFZAL.
Getting stronger with every tie, the visitors from Oman, Raha CC raised a few eyebrows when they played with an air of arrogance and bullishness to shut out big boys NMC by a convincing margin of 7 wickets on Friday in a stunning upset of the ongoing CSS Homeward Bound Trophy for the XVI Sharjah Ramadan Floodlit cricket tournament – A Division, conducted by the Sharjah Cricket Council.
Not only their bowling and batting was good, their commitment too was quite refreshing and going by their performances in the two games they have played so far, they have established themselves as one of the title favorites.
Batting first, NMC never established any momentum and had nothing but their lackadaisical batting to blame for as Raha CC bowlers applied the pressure to the brim and demolished the shock-struck batsmen.
NMC struggled for runs and momentum before being bowled out for a low total of 91 in 28 overs in which Sandeep Shetty top scored with a gritty 32 while Chamara Zoysa saved some certain blushes with an unbeaten cameo of 23.
Raha CC bowlers stuck to their task and combined deftly to wear down their rivals into submission; Farhan derailed the batting with fine figures of 3 for 35 while Naeem Akhtar (2 for 14) bowled a sharp spell to bamboozle the middle order along with Haider Ali (2 for 10) and Tariq Hussain (2 for 19).
Confronted with a low target, Raha CC completed their assignment on a rather dashing note when they produced a bullocking batting effort to settle the issue in 20.1 overs for the loss of 3 wickets.
Mohd Aslam (32) and Naseer Ahmed (30) showed their prowess and batted stridently to put Raha CC in a position of strength before Sultan (15 not out) put the cleaners on the opposition as Shadeep Silva (2 for 24) grabbed the bowling spoils.
