“ I am very much for globalization and tournaments like these will keep the interest going in the Non-test playing countries”, said Ranjit Fernando, who is here as one of the commentators. Talking about UAE’s performance in the tournament so far Ranjit Fernando said, “ There is a drastic change from the team that played in the 1996 World Cup”.
He further added that in 1996, the team comprised mostly of Expats but now, UAE is made up of young nationals who are capable of turning the tables and heading the country towards the bright side.
“UAE seems to be in control of the game but Rahul Sharma is there and can change the fortunes for Hong Kong”, Ranjit said while speaking on the state of the match.
Ranjit was very impressed with the team saying the players are very talented and have improved a lot from their last outing. He pointed out that they were bowling a bit too full in the last match but today they are pitching it short and having the batsmen in trouble.
Speaking on the issue of Umpires alleging commentators of criticizing their decisions, he said, “ A lot of commentators realized that the umpires job is a hard one and leave allowance for umpires mistakes but some decisions are ridiculously poor”.
“Umpires must also learn to take constructive criticism which would assist in their performance as they are professionals”, Ranjit further added
Ranjit Fernando did not touch the issue of Pakistan –India clash saying it’s a high level governmental issue and people like him can not comment.
Ranjit Fernando congratulated the young chaps of UAEcricket.com for a wonderful job they have been doing since the launch of the website.
